The Yemeni police, in a campaign began last week, have arrested six citizens in Haimah, about 50 Km west Sana'a, for growing marijuana. The source did not mention the quantity seized, but the detainees will be transferred to related legal authority. Some tribesmen in Marib had previously destroyed marijuana trees planted by a citizen from Haimah working in a farm in Marib.
The growing of marijuana is taking place in Yemen for its trade to neighboring countries. Qat is the regular substance consumed in Yemen in spite of being considered a narcotic by the World Health Organization.
