More than USD 28 Million of Fish Exports [Archives:2001/37/Local News]
The Yemeni fish exports totaled USD 29 million in the first half of 2001. In this context, more than 21 million Kilo of fishes have been exported while the total income from fish exported last year totalled USD 40 million. The Yemeni government encourages private sector companies to invest in the fishery sector by providing incentives, soft loans and by establishing quality test labs in Sana’a, Mukalla and Hodaidah. Moreover, qualified staff has been made available for the General Department for Quality Control at the different exporting ports in the Republic. Hence, the Ministry of Fisheries must pay more attention to building the infrastructures necessary for the fisheries sector, such as sea anchors, snow plants and labs, which all contribute to developing fish exports.
