A bill that offers services, privileges and priorities to expatriates has been ratified by the parliament last week. The new bill comprises rehabilitating investment zones, housing areas and industrial complexes. The bill aims primarily to attract the Yemeni expatriates capitals to be invested in vital investment fields available in the free zone and other productive sectors.
According to the bill, the Yemeni government will provide necessary information, legal consulting, technical aspects and publications with a view of attracting expatriates capitals.
The new bill will allow the Yemeni expatriates to bring their private cars during their visit to Yemen along with non-trade presents for only one year.
Tourist programs along with allocated pieces of lands and housing areas for the Yemeni expatriates have been entrusted with the concerned bodies.
The bill has exempted Yemeni expatriates from customs duties when bringing their furniture and other personal equipment. Only 50% of custom duties have been exempted in case expatriates bring their commercial equipment with them.
The new bill is considered a positive step towards attracting capitals of Yemeni expatriates to be invested in Yemen. The new bill also grants Yemeni expatriates additional privileges, which are not available in the Investment Law. It is expected that the new bill will also strengthen the expatriates cling to their homeland.
