Newly Appointed NDI Resident Representative Visits Yemen Times [Archives:2001/20/Local News]
Ms. Robin Madrid, the new Resident Representative in Yemen of the Washington-based National Democratic Institute (NDI) paid a visit last Saturday to Yemen Times and met the Editor-in-Chief Walid Abdulaziz Al-Saqqaf. During the visit she emphasized the importance of media’s cooperation with the institute and provide consultation and advice whenever appropriate to assist the NDI’s mission in Yemen.
“We will focus more on women’s rights for participation in elections and different democratic practices. The NDI will continue to promote and enhance the democratic experience in Yemen through a long-term plan” Ms. Robin said.
Ms. Robin expressed her appreciation for Yemen Times role in being a model for the free press in Yemen and explained her intention to interact with the press more often. She along with Ms. Rebecca Haessig NDI’s Program Officer for the Middle East and North Africa toured the different departments of the newspaper, where she was briefed about of the work of different departments of Yemen Times.
