Omar Al-Jawi Died [Archives:1997/52/Local News]

December 29 1997

Omar Al-Jawi, a well-known opposition politician (Secretary-General of the Tajammu’ Al-Wahdawi Al-Yamani) died on Tuesday December 23. At the age of 61, he is one of those rare politicians who died poor. Mr. Al-Jawi had participated in the defence on Sanaa during the 70-Day Siege, and in the liberation struggle against British colonial rule. Omar was opposed to the Yemeni civil war of 1994, but also opposed the secessionist drive. Thus, he fell in disfavor in both camps – in Sanaa and Aden.
