On the occasion of World Mental Health DaySeminar on psychiatry [Archives:2004/782/Local News]
Under the auspices of Mr. Abdulaziz Abdulghani, Chairman of the Consultative Council, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Psychiatry, and Dr. Mohammed Al-No'ami, Minister of Public Health and Population, the Ministry of Public Health and Population, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the World Federation of Mental Health and the Universities of Sana'a and Aden, organized the second seminar on “Presence and Future of Psychiatry in Yemen” during October 12-13. It came on the occasion of the World Mental Health Day, October 10.
The opening session was attended by Dr. Abbas Al-Mutawakil, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Ahmed Makki, member of the Consultative Council and a group of Yemeni psychiatrists from different provinces.
The seminar included a number of sessions on academic rehabilitation, psychiatric international organizations, and psychiatric services in the governmental and private sectors. Each session was concluded by a discussion.
“The specialists discuss the health policies in Yemen and are expected to come out with realistic and achievable recommendations,” said Martin Amacher, Head of ICRC delegation, at the opening session.
The seminar presented recommendations, which were discussed at the end of the seminar, and certificates were presented to the participants.
The seminar aimed to boost awareness and push forward the issues of psychiatry in Yemen.
