Qatar leading an expedition to promote tourism in Yemen [Archives:2007/1054/Local News]
SANA'A-May, 26 ) Qatar is leading an expedition to search Yemeni ancient pieces as well as to preserve them. According to official sources in al-Dawha and Sana'a, the Amir of Qatar, Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, during his visit to Yemen in May, launched an expedition to preserve Yemeni heritage.
This expedition aims at drilling for Yemeni ancient remains. Also, It intends to preserve and establish tourism areas in Yemen; particularly in Marib, al-Jawf, Hadhramout, and Shabwa. Moreover, Qatar promised to promote Yemen to be one of the important areas for tourism.
Yemen is rich in old treasures; ancient dams, and skyscrapers. These include the mud-brick “skyscrapers”” of historic Shibam in the Hadramaut region. Surrounded by a fortified wall
