As part of the activities of the UNDP Week to Combat Poverty, a cross-country race was organized by the Yemeni Athletics Association on Friday, October 17th. A 15-km race for youths, a 5-km race for youngsters (below 15 years), a 6-km race for older men, and a 3-km race for children (below 10 years) were also organized. The 15-km cross-country race was launched at Al-Sabeen Square – going through Police Academy Street, Zobairi Street, Asr Street – and ending at the starting point. According to the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Athletics Association, Mr. Ahmed Al-Sayyaghi, the UNDP has allocated 40 prizes, in addition to symbolic gifts as an encouragement, bearing the logo of the Week to Combat Poverty. “All sport associations must support such programs by organizing sports activities aimed at raising public awareness concerning important social issues,” said Mr. Al-Sayyaghi.
