SAF Issued a Press Release Concerning General Election Bill & Referendum [Archives:2001/44/Local News]
In a consultative meeting, the Sisters Arabic Meeting (SAF), organized on October 22, 2001 a meeting revolving around the general election law and referendum. Fifteen participants including members of civil society organizations, human rights organizations and media representatives took part in the event. After a lengthy discussion of the bill, the participants unanimously demanded the necessity of allocating 30 percent of seats to women in the legislative councils, setting up special committees to assist women candidates with the framework of the High Election Committee, and enjoining the media to stop its violent campaigns against women and removing the discriminatory language against women.
