Sana’a Investigations Office Chief, Accused [Archives:2000/07/Local News]
Sana’a Security Prosecution and Investigation office referred the case of five men charged with planting and selling marijuana to the Sana’a Criminal Prosecution. The security forces have caught them red handed in a marijuana farm in Bani Dobian, Khawlan on January 22, 2000. After being arrested, they were sent to the Investigations Office in Sana’a with three bags of marijuana weighing 32kg.
In a letter from the Deputy of Security and Investigations of the Prosecution to the Deputy of Sana’a, he reported that the leader of the gang was assisted in his escape from the Sana’a Investigations Office two days after his arrest and he remains at large since his escape on January 24, 2000.
The report contains the statements of the accused during the investigation, showing that he bought a farm called “Gerbat Al-Amel”, in an area of about 30 lebnahs” (a ‘lebnah’ equals 44 square meters) for YR 400,000 and that he used to bring marijuana from Khawlan to Sana’a in military cars so that he won’t be examined at checkpoints.
The report also pointed the involvement of seven other persons in growing and trading in marijuana and are still on the run.
