Sana’a Summit Calls for an Urgent Arab Summit [Archives:2000/04/Front Page]
Sana’a tripartite summit grouping presidents Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen, Omer Hassan Al-Bashir of the Sudan and Ismael Omer Jeila of Djibouti held on January 17,2000 issued a joint press communique on the summit covering various Arab, and international issues.
The Sana’a summit tackled mainly the relations among the three countries in various areas and ways of developing them. The summit had also dealt with the Arab situation, the condition in Somalia and the African Horn as well as the positive developments in the Sudan and the situation in the Red Sea. The viewpoints of the three presidents were identical on the issues they had discussed.
The Arab Summit:
The three leaders had reviewed the Arab nation situations in general and impending dangers on the outset of the third millennium and the challenges the new world order is imposing. They emphasized their support and backing of the Yemeni efforts calling for holding an urgent Arab summit for achieving Arab solidarity and healing the rift in the Arab rank.
The situations in Somalia:
The three presidents also touched on the situation in Somalia and the tragedy the Somalian people are undergoing and welcomed the initiative proposed by president Ismael Omer Jeila for establishment of peace and restoration of security and stability to Somalia. They expressed their backing of the initiative.
The situations in Sudan:
The summit had listened with interest to an explanation presented by president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir on the positive developments recently taking place in Sudan. It expressed support for efforts exerted by the Sudanese leadership to strengthen the internal front and securing national unity and democracy.
