Saudi religious leaders fail to solve Salafia disputes [Archives:2002/29/Front Page]
Fierceness of exchanged accusations between conflicting parties inside Salafia in Yemen has been increasing lately. The dispute is sharply apparent between Abu al-Hassan al-Marebi who leads Dar al-Hadith in Mareb and Ulama and sheikhs of Dar al-Hadith in Dammaj, Saada.
Efforts exerted by Saudi religious scholars and leaders of the Salafia in the Saudi kingdom failed to resolve what has been described as sedition inside the Salafia sect in Yemen. Some Yemeni Salafia leaders have also accused Salafia leaders from Saudi arabia and Jordan of their involvement in the dispute. This is a matter that urged some leaderships from the moderate wing to warn against sedition in a letter addressed to president Ali Abdullah Saleh. It is reported that a meeting was held in Hudeida last month, Hadi grouping the scholars that sheikh Muqbil al-Wadie recommended to succeed him and sought arbitration of Saudi scholars, among whom sheikh Mohammed Rabie Hadi, has failed up till now to reach a settlement.
A number of Salafia sheikhs led by sheikh Mohammed al-Immam, sheikh al-Saumali and al-Buraie have issued a statement demanding all Sunnis to abandon sheikh Abu al-Hassan al-Marebi. They agreed on preventing him from practicing his activities he conducts in Yemeni villages and towns.
