SANA'A, July 30 ) In a meeting yesterday, the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) approved a program submitted by the Technical Affairs and Planning Sector (TAPS), aiming to conduct local and presidential elections on September 20.
The program included an allocated time span to conduct elections according to appointments dictated in the General Elections and Referendum Law and its bylaws.
Beginning Aug. 12, the SCER will receive applications over 10 days from those wishing to nominate themselves in local elections, while electoral campaigning will begin September 1.
Further, the SCER discussed a report submitted by the chairman of TAPS regarding training heads and members of supervising committees for the local and presidential elections. Additionally, the SCER discussed the reception process of district primary committees prior to training them in technical, legal and executive measures related to the upcoming presidential and local elections.
Attended by all SCER members, representatives from the International Project for Election Support, the International Foundation of Election Systems (IFES), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the American Democratic Institute (ADI), SCER meeting participants also checked and tested inks prepared for a referendum, aiming to choose the best ink for the upcoming elections.
In an attempt to retain elections transparency and impartiality and leave no chance for doubting their results, the selected ink is planned to last longer on thumbs and be unwashable by any solvents to prevent repeat voting.
