Short Story & Novel Festival winds up [Archives:2002/20/Local News]
The Culture Ministry concluded Wednesday its 5-day Short Story and Novel festival held at the culture center in Sanaa. A keen interest was clearly shown in the art of short story writings, narration and novel, which manifested itself in depicting reality of the society.
Culture minister Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Rowhani addressed the concluding meeting of the festival and stressed that the ministry would leave no stone unturned to reactivate cultural activities in all its aspects.
Al-Rowhani indicated further that the culture ministry does its best to make such festivals to be held periodically. He called on civil society organizations and men-of-letters to play vital role to make of such events a success.
The participants discussed various themes in the field of short story. In addition to this, ten studies written by some distinguished Arab writers were presented during the 5-day festival.
More than 140 male and female storywriters participated this cultural activity.
The 5-day short story festival was intended to be a step paving the way for Sanaa to occupy the status of the cultural Arab capital in 2004. The final day was attended by Abdulwahab Al-Rowhani ,the culture minister, Ahmed Al Kolani, the mayor of Sanaa, some Arab ambassadors, distinguished writers and intellectuals.
The culture minister finished off the short story festivals by awarded prizes and certificates of merits to some of the distinguished pioneers in the art of short story writing.
