Newly elected Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and the Minister of Culture, Carmen Calvo visited the Amnesty International stand in the Madrid Book Fair recently. He talked to Cecilia, a member of Group 66, which is working on the case of the Yemeni citizen Hammoud Murshed Hassan Ahmed.
The Spanish Prime Minister was told about the ten years that Hammoud has spent in prison and the difficulties he has had in getting a fair trial. Zapatero took an interest in the case and expressed his support for the work of Amnesty International in this regard. It is hoped that this will boost the possibility of enabling Hammoud to get a fair trial in Yemen.
