Two needles and one ball can knit the whole world together if you start from west to east – the chill of winter is felt at every place – and warmth of the wool can ease you from this spell of cold winds.
A few tips for reading knitting books:
Abbreviations:
1. C – Contrast colour
2. M -Main colour
3. K Knit
4. P – Purl
5. m.1 – Make a stitch by picking up the loop before next stitch and work into back of it.
6. p.s.s.o – Pass the slip stitch over.
7. rep – Repeat
8. ss – Slip stitch
9. st.st. – Stocking stitch
10. tbl – Through back of loops
11. tog – Together
12. yb – Yarn back
13. y.fd – Yarn forward
14. yrn – Yarn around needle
15. beg. – Begin
16. foll – Follow
17. alt – Alternative
18. inc. – Increase
19. dec – Decrease
20. sl.st. – Slip stitch
21. g.st. – Garler stitch
22. incl. – Including or inclusive
23. patt. – Continue
24. cont. – Continue
25. y fwd – Yarn forward

Different stitches which are generally used:
(1) Stocking stitch
Row 1: K (plain side)
Row 2: P
Row 3: Rep from row 1
(2) Reverse stocking stitch A stocking stitch is worked using the two basic movements of all knitting patterns – knit stitch and purl stitch.
(3) Continental or twisted stocking stitch
Row 1-K working into back of stitch.
Row 2-P
Row 3-Rep from row 1.
(4) Garter stitch
Knit every row.
(5) Moss stitch-
Multiple of 2-
Row 1-* K 1 p 1
Row 2 and alternative (alt) row K the p sts and p the k sts of the previous row.
Row 3-* p 1,K 1
Row 5- Rep from row 1.
(6) Rib-(Border for sweater)
Row 1-K 1 PK
Row 2-PL K 1 from previous row.
(7) Brioche Rib- Multiple of 2
Row 1-K
Row 2-* K 1 K 1 B*(insert needle into the stitch below the next stitch to be knitted and knit) K 2.
