Students’ week celebrated in Sayun [Archives:2004/739/Culture]

The Faculties of Education and Applied Sciences-Sayun (Hadramout University) celebrated Students' Week from 10 to 16 May 2004.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by the deans of both colleges, Prof. Salwan K. Al-Ani and Prof. Mohammed A. Al- Kathiri, teaching staff and a large number of students. The ceremony began with readings from the Holy Quran. Then , Prof. Al- Kathiri said in a speech that the week coincided with the celebration of the 14th anniversary of the unification. He pointed out that Yemen has witnessed a huge shakeup in all aspects of life since that unforgettable day. “It is a turning point in Yemen history” he added. He said also that this week is considered an opportunity to show all sorts of creativity. After the ceremony both deans cut the ribbons of the show-rooms, where walls were decorated with paintings, pictures and creative works of the students.
On the third day a three-act play, was performed. Its theme can be summarized by the proverb “If there is a will, there is a way”.
This year, the Students' Week was held under the motto of “Sanaa – the capital of Arab culture”.
On the last day, Prof. Al-Ani gave a speech in which he praised the effort of the organizing committee in planning and arranging the activities of the week
Later, local poets delivered some Bedouin poems in praise of President Saleh and the Iraqi and Palestinian resistance.
Finally, distinguished students in the first term were honoured by the deans of the two colleges.
