Study on independence of courts [Archives:2004/775/Local News]

A workshop on the independence of primary courts in Aden, Abyan, and Lahj was concluded on Monday 20th September. The workshop was organized by the Establishment for Supporting Civil Democracy Tendency (ESCDT) in coordination with the Ministry of Justice and the British Embassy in Yemen.
The workshop was concerned with the transparency of administration, proceedings and implementation of the primary courts' independence.
Abdulmajeed al-Fahd, Chairman of ESCDT, pointed out that “the workshop is considered an inauguration of the establishments training program for the year 2004. The program is intended to reinforce transparency and independence in courts in Yemen.”
“The program aims to train 10,000 judges and assistants in 245 primary and appellate courts in Yemen, some of them are of the supervisors of the judicial system and Ministry of Justice.”
'The program includes two stages; there will be 12 workshops in different governorates and 245 training meetings for the primary courts in the provinces as well as some evaluation meetings. The program will plan for field visits too.' He added.
He mentioned that the workshop studied the significance of facilitating judicial services for citizens especially women and marginalized social groups.
