Telephone Exchanges to be Expanded [Archives:1997/45/Local News]

A deal was signed by the Ministry of Communication and the French Alcatel company to install new telephone exchanges and improve existing ones. Worth almost FF 80 million, the deal will develop 82,000 telephone lines. Of the total cost of the project, FF30 million will be provided by the French government as part of a cooperation protocol between France and Yemen. The rest of the money will be provided by the Yemeni Ministry of Communication. Three main telephone exchanges are to be installed in Radaa, Beidha, and Hodeida. They will have a capacity of 29,000 telephone lines. A time period of 22 months is designated for completing the project.
