SANA'A- The first conference for popular poetry in Yemen is due to conclude today.

The conference was opened last Thursday at the Yemeni Researches and Studies Center by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hussein al-Ahmar, the Parliamentary Speaker.

Sheikh Abdullah al-Ahmar confirmed that the popular poetry is regularly read and it has an important role in maintaining social values and morals in society and eliminating the unacceptable behaviors.

Yemeni popular poetry occupies a prestigious position among Yemeni traditions and customs.

For his part, Amin al-Shar'abi, Head of Yemeni Poets Association, delivered a speech in which he pointed out the status of the popular poetry in the souls of all people, educated and uneducated.
