The Yemeni-British Friendship Association met on Saturday, 9th June at the International Bank of Yemen in Sanaa, chaired by Dr. Abdullah Abdul Wali Nasher, the chairman of the association and chairman of IBY. The deputy Head of Mission, HM Consul-General and head of the Commercial of Section at the British Embassy in Sanaa, Jacqueline Lawson-Smith, accompanied by the Director of the British council, Adrian Chadwick, and the Embassys new commercial Officer, Khalid AL-Sayyaghi, attended along with a selected team of Yemeni businessmen and members of Association.
The meeting discussed ways in which the bilateral commercial and investment cooperation could be developed and enhanced, laying the foundation for stronger UK-Y Yemeni relations in all fields, headed by greater business and investment activities. The meeting considered a number of ideas including an exchange of visits between businessmen and hosting exhibitions, the preparation of a list of businessmen from both countries who already do business with the UK and Yemen, as well as encouraging others, who look for business and investment opportunities to join in.
Representatives of three banks attending the meeting confirmed their willingness to assist in supporting the expansion of trade between Yemen and UK. They also asserted their commitment to assure investors and exporters from Britain that there would be no default of payments from the Yemeni Importers.
The meeting welcomed and valued a number of positive events that took place over the last few days in the UK and Yemen.
-The 7 June revision of the British Government Travel Advice for Yemen.
-The opening of the Queen of Sheba exhibition at the British Museum in London.
-The return of ECGD cover
-The return of Queen Victoria statue to its original place, Attewahi Garden in Aden.
These are very important and positive steps between the two friendly countries.
The British Embassy and the Yemeni British friendship Association expressed their respective commitment to working actively together towards the common goal of building on existing commercial relations between the two countries.
They agreed to hold regular meetings, at least once every two months.
