Thousands march to support Intifada Sanaa lifts Palestinians [Archives:2002/14/Front Page]
SanaaThe Palestinian-Israeli crisis continued to find a voice on the streets of Yemens capital Tuesday when thousands marched to show their solidarity with the Palestinians.
Demonstrators flocked to the Palestinian Embassy where they shouted anti-Israel slogans.
They upheld the Palestinian people to resist mounting Israeli aggression, which included a siege of the headquarters of PLOleader Yasser Arafat on the Christian holy day of Good Friday.
Affiliates of Yemens Joint Meeting Parties were part of the demonstration, showing the pro-Intifada sentiment continues to cross the regions political lines..
Early on Tuesday, thousands of protesters started massing at al Sabeen square. They called on Arab leaders to support the Intifada and withstand any possible U.S. strikes on Iraq.
Demonstrators burnt out an effigy of Israeli prime minister, Arial Sharon and Israeli banners.
Protesters also shouted anti-normalization slogans in a rejection to the Saudi-sponsored peace initiative, which was discussed in lasts weak Beirut Arab summit.
Similarly, through a statement released March 23, all Yemeni political parties called for Yemens blessing of the Intifada and opposed any kind of initiative that may foil the Palestinian uprising.
The statement blamed both the United States and Israel for being sponsors of international terrorism.
It called for the trial of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as a war criminal and also opposed any military move against Iraq. The statement voiced support for Lebanon and Syria to recover Shabaa farms and the Golan Heights currently under Israeli occupation.
