Under NTMC Auspices, Martyrs Chess [Archives:1998/03/Sports]

The Military Sports Association, in cooperation with the Yemeni Chess Association, is hosting the Martyrs Chess Championship at the 7th of May Sports Hall in Sanaa. The whole event is sponsored by the National Tobacco and Matches Company (NTMC). Fifty players from various clubs and military sports associations are participating. The fifth round started on Friday, January 16th, and resulted in Ahmed Musaad Al-Qardai making headway in the competition. As for the second and third rounds, the level of the games was not so good. This is perhaps due to the fact that most of the soldier players are beginners who had no previous experience in such events. This championship started on Tuesday and will continue until Wednesday, January 21st.
