US to help in education reform [Archives:2003/643/Front Page]

The US has increased its cultural and educational programs for Yemen as a part of its worldwide campaign to crack down on terrorism and extremism. Mr. John Balian, Public Affairs Section at the US embassy in Sana'a, told the Yemen Times that the number of scholarships as well as other cultural and educational programs have been tremendously increased as the US feels there is a need for this in Yemen. He even pointed out that the US is interested in assisting Yemen to reform its educational system. He believes such things will help Yemenis become open to the world and once this takes place, they are least likely to go into extremism.
