On Wednesday 11 March 2004, Vice Chairman of Public Authority for Free Zones, President of Aden Free Zone, Mr.Derhim Nouman, received Mr. Mahmoud Dereel, Minister of Mines of the Republic of Ethiopia, and his accompanying delegation. The Minister was briefed about the economic progress of Aden Free Zone, especially in attracting investment and creating industrial and storage zones and international navigation in the free zone. He also welcomed Ethiopian investment.
The Minister toured the Container Port, during which time some navigational activities and the unloading of containers from international ports were taking place. He was also informed of the future directions and plans to reactive the role of the port in order to receive giant carriers' containers. The Minister praised the distinguished navigating services at the container port, one of the advanced ports in the region, and confirmed the readiness of Ethiopian businessmen for future investment in the free zone.
A dinner reception was held in honor of the Minister and his accompanying delegation, and was attended by the governors of Aden and Lahj, Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi and Mansour Abdul Jalel, respectively.
Ms. Wardah Sulaiman, CEO of Ethiopia PLC Wajag Trading, explained that the visit of the Ethiopian Minister of Mines to Yemen, which includes a number of other governorates, aims at exploring investment opportunities in oil and the export of liquefied gas from Aden to Ethiopia. She added that oil investments receive attention and facilities from Yemeni officials. She said that Wajag companies exports 98% of the gas being exported to Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian delegation left Aden for Hadramout to meet with a number of Yemeni businessmen and officials there.
