During August of this year Yemen will witness a unique event. The Yemeni-Canadian Relations Council (YCRC), a youth-run, non-profit organization based out of Calgary, Canada will be hosting a Youth Development Conference in the capital Sana'a.
The conference is aimed at training and equipping Yemeni youth from across the country with various team dynamics, leadership, and entrepreneurship skills as they relate to the development process in Yemen. The conference will also serve to increase the awareness of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) amongst Yemen's young population and engage them in Yemen's development process. The MDGs are a set of eight concrete targets adopted by the United Nations for advancing development and reducing poverty in the world by 2015.
The conference will be hosted at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sana'a and is scheduled to run for five days from August 7 to August 12, 2004. Several experts, both Yemeni and foreign, will be attending the conference to lecture and train the participants.
Another aim of the conference is to encourage corporate social responsibility among businesses operating in Yemen. To this effect, the conference has dedicated an entire day of the conference in which delegates from various companies, NGOs, and the Yemeni government will be invited to participate in the Corporate Social Responsibility Forum and share their experiences in this field.
This event is sponsored by Canadian Nexen Yemen Petroleum Limited, Hayel Saeed Anam and Company, the United Nations Yemen Country Team, Faculty of Medicine – Sana'a University, and Deloitte (M.E). The official English language newspaper coverage for this conference will be provided by Yemen Times.
Currently, the conference organizing committee has initiated the delegates' recruitment process. The conference is expected to host 100 delegates from across the country aged between 17 and 26.
A copy of the registration form can be obtained from the YCRC website www.ycrc.ca or directly from the conference organizing committee by calling 73413217, or via email at [email protected].
