Yemen Nominated to Host Asian Championship [Archives:2000/19/Local News]
The Minister of Youth, Mr. Abdulwahab Raweh gave the green light to Yemeni Chess Union to host the 13th Asian Chess Championship. This championship is organized by Dubai International Chess Club. 40 cities participate in this championship. Dubai municipality awards the golden cup of the championship, which costs US$140 million.
The announcement of nomination comes after the approval of Arab Chess Union in Dubai. Yemen was chosen to be the hosting country after the success that had been achieved in hosting two previous Arab chess championships. Yemen will also be nominated to host this championship in the meeting of the International Chess Union during Chess Olympiad to be hosted by Turkey next October.
