Yemen seeks assistance to handle maritime patrol [Archives:2002/32/Front Page]
Prime minister Abdulqadir Bajammal called last week on donor countries to help Yemen in establishment of Coast Guard Forces, recently created in Yemen to fight terrorism and illegal immigration and providing safe navigation.
Bajammal said in the meeting held last Monday with donor countries and GCC ambassadors in Yemen, that due to the important role to be played by Yemeni Coast Guard with regard to securing safe navigation and fighting terror, the donor countries are required to offer the needed support.
Yemen seeks to get gunboats, ships helicopters, radar systems and modern communications equipment as well as training those troops, as was mentioned in a press statement by commander of the Yemeni Coast Guard brigadier general Rasie.
It worthwhile mentioning that the United States has begun giving training to a first batch of twenty police officers on operating radar systems, and communications in addition to learning English language.
