Yemen Smile concludes 5-day marathon surgery camp in Saadah and Seiyun [Archives:2004/783/Health]

In a five-day marathon surgery camp, Yemen Smile successfully operated on a total of 34 cleft lip and palate patients in Saadah and the Seiyun hospital. Yemeni trainee surgeons, Dr. Mohammed Aidaroos, Dr. Fahim Al-Hollandi and Dr. Abdulla Al Matary performed some of the surgeries in the different Yemen Smile camps.
Many Yemeni government hospital workers from Saadah Republican hospital and Seiyun General hospital came forward to help make this camp a success.
The number of cleft lip and palate operations in the last year alone has now surpassed 170.
In addition, some leading Yemeni business houses like Sabafon and Arabian Group of Companies offered their best wishes and support for this small charity. Mr. Tariq Al Haidari, CEO of Sabafon visited the Yemen Smile Center and offered to sponsor many of the children who have suffered from cleft lips or palates.
Mr Sam Al Badani, employee of the UK embassy and Local Chairman of Yemen Smile commented,” Yemen Smile will try to help all the cleft children in Yemen in the next few years by bringing in newer technology and expertise from other countries”.
French Embassy officials also offered to promote the work of Yemen Smile by forming a jazz band called Sourire de Yemen (Smile of Yemen) under the supervision of Philippe Gunet and professional jazz pianist Mr. Patrice of Credit Agricole Indosuez .
With the active participation of Yemenis and expatriates, Yemen Smile hopes to make many more cleft children in Yemen smile again.
