A well-known European cartoonist organization “Cartoonists Rights Network East Europe” extended an open invitation to Yemeni cartoonists to come to Romania and participate in the biggest competition of the year. All travel, accommodation and daily expenses of the Yemeni invitees will be covered for the exhibition's opening ceremony to be held in the first quarter of 2004.
All that the organization needs from Yemeni cartoonists is to join 150 other invitees in making and sending a sketch of the very prominent Romanian writer Caragiale, Ion Luca before the deadline of 15 Jan0 2004.
Participants from almost all countries of the world have already sent their sketches to the organization's website (www.cartoon-crn.com).
What makes the competition quite easy is that anyone can draw in any style using anything including computers. What is important is that the drawing or painting reflects Caragiale in a way or another.
Unfortunately, so far no cartoonist has applied from Yemen, and the organization has decided to dedicate at least one place for a Yemeni cartoonist. Shown are a few sketches of Caragiale drawn by a number of contenders.
Caragiale, Ion Luca, 1853-1912, was a Romanian playwright and author. He was Romania's foremost dramatist, his works sharply satirized Romanian society. His masterpiece, A Lost Letter (1884), describes a provincial government election won by a blackmailer.
Other plays include Carnival Adventures (1885) and False Accusation (1889), a tragedy. He also wrote short stories and novels.
