Yemeni-French health cooperation promoted [Archives:2003/655/Health]

SANA'A_ A meeting was held last week between H.E. Pierre Boillot, the French Ambassador and Dr. Mohammed Yahya Annoami, the Minister of Public Health & Population, discussing promotion and assessment of French and Yemeni health bilateral relations.
The meeting tackled with widening horizons of health cooperation between the two countries. The topics covered training of Yemeni medical cadres at the Kuwait Hospital in Yemen and the Marseilles Hospital in France. The two sides discussed the possibility of sending French medical doctors and specialists to Yemen especially surgery and extensive care.
The two officials also discussed the similar goals of the Republican Hospital in Taiz and the Marseilles Hospital in France.
On its part, the French side showed its interest with regard to offering supplies to the heart diseases center at the Republic Hospital in Taiz.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammed Ashehari, the General Manager of the Technical Cooperation & International Relations, the technical consultant at the French Embassy in Sana'a and a number of officials. On the other hand, in a first successful visit abroad, the Minister of the Public Health expressed his happiness for the meeting's results held recently in Paris by the World Fund for Fighting AIDS, TB and malaria.
The meeting reviewed results and achievements of the fund since its establishment and its role as an international institution.
An official invitation was extended by the health minister to the Area Manager of the Middle East office to take part in the national symposium to be held in Sana'a in October 2003.
Several issues were also discussed including the establishment of a training center for heart emergencies along with providing medical apparatus for eye diseases and supporting a special study on the dangers of the infectious diseases in Yemen.
During his visit, the Minister of Public Health & Population also conducted a friendly discussion with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Mohammed Ewash Taj aimed at activating health cooperation protocols signed between the two countries.
The two ministers also paid to treatment of the incurable cases regarding the Yemeni patients in order to be treated at the Egyptian hospitals.
They also emphasized on sending Egyptian medical teams to perform surgical operations.
