A US military team is now in Yemen to launch a project that will electronically monitor Yemen outlets.
The team is part of the U.S. and other donor countries assistance to help Yemen patrol its borders.
Sources said a joint Yemeni U.S. security team will start this week installing an electronic network to monitor some of the main outlets. The U.S. has provided high tech devices for this project being carried out by the Yemeni Interior Ministry in cooperation with the U.S..
The project includes electronically linking all main outlets with immigration and interior ministries to monitor the flow of foreigners to Yemen.
The Counterterrorism Department at the Ministry of Interior has been provided with a similar network, connecting it with outlets, the immigration authority and other security related authorities.
Th new electronic system is geared to help Yemeni security officials monitor suspected terrorists and extremists, and prevent their access to fake passports or any other documents.
Security measures will be electronically tightened up in Sanaa in particular as high-tech devices like computers, surveillance cameras and similar equipment will be installed in the main streets, embassies and compounds of some companies, in addition to Sanaa outlets.
These are then connected to a central operation that will receive reports and photos from such places around the clock.
The devices to be implemented in the capital are financed by the government at YR 170 million.
There are now more than 20 U.S. military experts in Yemen to help train Yemeni special task forces on cracking down on terrorism.
