16 people drowned in Aden in 2001 [Archives:2001/36/Local News]

Sixteen people, most of whom were children, have drowned while swimming in Aden owing to weather changes this year.
In a statement to the Yemen Times, Colonel Sameer Abdullah, said that the TV, Radio and newspapers had been instructed to warn visitors of Aden against such changes of weather. Rescue teams, fully trained and equipped with all necessary safety measures, have been formed. Mr. Sameer also stressed the important role of families in protecting their children.
The Governor of Aden, Taha Ahmad Ghanem called upon the citizens to adhere to the safety measures when swimming.
