1st Stage of Dredging Aden Port Completed [Archives:1997/45/Local News]

The first stage of dredging the Aden coastal area designated for the container port has been successfully completed. A 38-hectare island was formed to accommodate the proposed container platforms. “Work on the second stage of the six-platform island will commence during the next few days,” said Mr. Dirham Noman, the Aden Free Zone director. According the deal between Yeminvest and the Singapore Ports Authority, work on the container platforms is expected to be completed in March of 1999. “A new dredger is also expected to arrive this November,” said Noman.
