Congratulations to you, Yemen Times on your 12th anniversary. Your paper is the best English speaking newspaper in the Arab World, especially your comments and opinions are excellent.
I'm a German reader and I'm quite interested in the Arab World, especially in Yemen. For about one year I have been reading your newspaper quite regularly. I really think Yemen Times is the best English speaking newspaper and one of the best newspapers in the Arab world at large. Yemen Times informs its readers substantial and independently. Yemen Times' independence makes it important and worth reading. Yemen should be glad for such a newspaper. There are not many newspapers in the Arab world like the Yemen Times. Once again, congratulations.
Now some comments to some of your recent “Our Viewpoint” statements. In the recent weeks Yemen Times has published some “Our Viewpoint” articles concerning Germany and Europe. I got really proud when I read them. Proud about what Germany and Europe have reached after the destructive World War II. Our project “Europe” is still “under construction”, but the young European generation (which I belong to) feels more and more European. We hope, we will be able finish the “European project” soon and successfully in about 10 to 20 years. The EU is our answer to war, hate, power, nationalism, poverty and corruption. We hope this “new” Europe will help us cope with problems and challenges of the 21st century.
I also support the Yemeni efforts to join the GCC. I hope the GCC will become the Arabian “EU”. This would help the whole region in its further development. But I think that the leaders of the GCC currently try to solve the most difficult problems at first. Economical issues can be solved much easier than political ones. Moreover the solution of economical issues will help the people of the GCC-countries.
In the end, I want to say that Arabs and Yemenis should learn from Europeans problems and solutions, but they should not copy the EU. That is not the solution. Arabia needs an Arab solution. And I hope, they'll find it soon.
