A question from Jamaica [Archives:2004/745/Letters to the Editor]

We are a family originally from Yemen but currently living in Jamaica. I would like to ask your readers a question about our ancestors, whose members may still be in Yemen. If our family tradition has it that our family lived many years ago in Yemen; but emigrated when the Marib Dam collapsed and drought resulted.
Is our tradition correct? Is Mahfouz a specific family name or a general one? Are there any left in Yemen? I hope one of your readers could respond.
