A word on democracy [Archives:2004/787/Letters to the Editor]

This is in reference to Kareema Edward's letter with regard to democracy. For Kareema's information, democracy is not something American made. It is true that it is man made, just as all kinds of gods are made and worshipped by man. Democracy also means a tolerant way of life. If you want Muslim people to reject it, so be it.
Democracy and Sharia rules are different, meaning Sharia law is not democratic or it is possible that it is more than the democracy that exists on earth. So to check on this we'll take following examples.
In democracy a person can change his religion as he wishes. But in Muslim law this is not possible. Renegades are dealt with death penalty. In democracy people can question the governments, and have the right to express their opinions even against any religion. But in Muslim religion you cannot question, such as who created Allah, and why did he create this messy and miserable world, etc.. And it is the law written by Allah, the all merciful.
But thinking of these simple arguments, it looks like people who created democracy are more merciful than your Almighty.
