A workshop on developmental strategy was concluded last week starting from July-3. The workshop concentrated mainly on modernizing the Yemeni harbor cities in collaboration with the International Cities Federation. Hundreds of participants took part in the workshop including the governmental bodies, Aden districts, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the charitable developmental societies.
Modernizing the Yemeni harbors and making use of the experiments of the International Cities Federation in this respect. was the attention focus of participants during their discussion at the workshop taking. A great significance of the Aden City as an international harbor that has a strategic international location has been highlighted by the participants.
The workshop was attended by the Aden Governor, Ahmed Ghanem, the Secretary General of the Local Council and the Chairman of the Technical Team of Development Strategy, Abdulkareem Shaif, the General Manager of the Promoting the Yemeni Harbor Cities, Mohammed Mansour and a host of others.
On the other hand, preparations are underway to add two new huge trailers totaling 31 meters long and 4827 hp. These two trailers are considered to be one of the latest technology that has been used by the international harbors. In this respect, Yemen could cope with the modern changes specially with regard to importing these two trailers. The estimated amount of money totaling to USD 12 million.
In this regard, a Singaporean super tanker was anchored in the Aden container port. The tanker is one of the largest international tankers in the world. The new tanker has the capacity to hold 2035 containers of the Yemeni exports to the al-Fujaira Harbor in the UAE.
During this year more than 308 tankers have been received by the Aden container port. In the same context, over 202610 containers have been unloaded during the end of June 2002. With these statistics, the port could record a remarkable increase in comparison with the previous year. It is expected that the overall of containers will reach during the end of this year to 500,000 containers.
