I have read the first volume of the work of al-Akwa on Yemeni proverbs and have found it to be an outstanding work. Many collections of proverbs done by Arab and non-Arab scholars are more random selections without context – his work is truly authoritative and provides not only insights into Yemeni culture and language but also other Arab cultures as well. I wish that many of my countrymen could read his work – and learn from it the depth of Yemen’s culture and heritage. He truly deserves the honors given to him.
