The U.S. Administration demanded Yemen to insert the name of Sheikh Abdulmajid Al-Zindani, former Presidential Council member and Rector of the Eman University, in the list of 35 terror suspects wanted by the Interpol while the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh denies that Al-Zindani is involved in any terrorist plots, the newspaper quoted international police sources as saying. The sources added that the Interpol sent a note to the Yemeni security authorities, demanding them to hand Al-Zindani over to it according to the internationally recognized conventions. The Interpol said it tried to contact with Yemeni security authorities, but all the efforts had gone awry, as Yemen insists on its refusal to hand over any citizen to a foreign country since this contravenes the national constitution.

The international sources clarified that Saleh never considers Al-Zindani a terrorist and denies his alleged involvement in funnelling money to or supporting terrorism. Saleh asked the U.S. Administration and the United Nations Security Council to provide material evidence of Al-Zindani's involvement in terrorism, and in case Al-Zindani is found guilty of supporting terrorism, he will be tried in a Yemeni tribunal because the Yemeni constitution prevents citizens from standing trial in foreign countries.
