The reason given is the continuous stoppages experienced by the gas plant compressors, GCR1 and GCR2 which often last for 4 to 5 hours a day. The 10 electric generators all work at a lower capacity than what the refinery needs. Nine gas fires are burning all day long, causing a lot of smoke. People have complained of a rise in the area’s temperature and the spread of a skin disease that was unknown before. Crops in the area are also badly affected by the smoke.
