Act of Desperation
Residents in South Safia, Sanaa were quite horrified when a hand grenade exploded at dawn last Monday. Police surrounded a house where the man who threw the grenade barricaded himself. An exchange of fire ensued, and lasted until noon! A community leader, Col. Naji Al-Hardi intervened trying to persuade the man to surrender himself. The police, however, shot and injured him. It transpired later that he is a member of an opposition party, and had his salary stopped for more than a year now.
