The political editor of the newspaper writes saying the Lebanese Prime Minister Omar Karami has scored a moral victory in the political defeat the Lebanese opposition has inflicted him. He has taken his allies with a surprise by that noble stance he has shown in keenness on the unity and safety of Lebanon.

Though he was capable of renewing confidence in his government in parliament, as the opposition does not possess majority to vote in non-confidence, it was clear for him and before him that the street was in contradiction of him. Thus, he did not pay attention to the advice of the president of the republic to gain confidence in his government and then to resign for what would mean for him votes of a majority of members of parliament in the face of popular tempest and social division threatening his homeland?

One sentence with which Karami has put the ball in the court of the opposition and placed it in the touchstone of the test of responsibility and credibility. It has either to display loyalty to al-Hariri heritage and continue his national approach or just disclose it is taking his death and asset for sectarian and private interests.

Rafik al-Hariri, not the pillars of opposition, was himself who led with his known efficiency the confrontation for not renewing the extension for the president of the republic and operated with it the battle of lessening the grip of the Syrian security apparatuses. Since the parliamentarian majority was on the other side, al-Hariri came out victorious, politically and morally and maybe Damascus has now realized that it was the bigger loser in that battle.

Al-Hariri himself was well aware of the importance of Lebanon's connection with Syria more than understood by those who see the alliance with it is an easy road for reaching the parliament or the cabinet. He was capable of formulating a new relationship with Syria guaranteeing for it political and economic influence in Lebanon after pulling out its forces and to provide it with an international cover.

When he refused to cooperate with president Lahud after the extension of his presidency and withdrew from premiership of the government, it has granted him his vote as a member of parliament.
