Chemical Dump Uncovered
Construction workers have accidentally uncovered a chemical-waste dump while digging up a 2-m foundation for an annex at the garden of the National Population Council offices in Amran Street, Sanaa. Up until 4 years ago, the offices were occupied by the American World Development Agency. The burnt remains of unidentified matter emitting fouls smells as well as plastic bags and metal canisters filled with unknown chemicals were also found. Several workers began to suffer from poisoning symptoms such as nausea, headache, palpitations, and chest pains. A team from the Environment Protection Council analyzed specimens of these chemicals. The results are to be announced soon.
