The political editor says despite of the elapse of three years since the events of blasting the American destroyer USS Cole on October 12, 2000, and despite of the advanced security and military cooperation between Yemen and the United States in fighting terror the file of Cole is still wide-open. The urging question is when would this file be closed for good?
Since the escape of the ten prisoners, accused of destroying Cole, from the political security prison in Tawahi up till now the news is conflicting between the hiding of some of those prisoners inside our territories and their flee abroad and the neighbouring countries. In this regard some pres news reported a week or more ago that the third suspect in the incident Muhsin Harhara had surrendered himself to security authorities. The same news had pointed out that Harhara gave serious information that the remainder of escapees is still inside the governorates of Abyan and Shabwa, particularly the accused number one Nabeel al-Badawi and his major accomplice Fahd al-Qasie. Other sources said one or more suspects had surrendered themselves to the Yemeni security apparatuses a few days ago. The question is has not time come yet for folding the black pages of the incident of the destroyer Cole?
