SANA'A_ Dr. Abdulaziz al-Maqaleh, a great Yemeni critic and author was awarded the French knight medal for literature and arts by the French Embassy in Sana'a, August 10.
On his part, the French Ambassador to Yemen delivered a speech expressing his happiness of honoring Dr. al-Maqleh, the Great Yemeni author and critic.
Dr. al-Maqaleh is a highly respected author and that France is much grateful for his copious literary contributions in all aspects.
Dr. al-Maqaleh has been and will be a supporter for the French cultural activities and its initiatives in the context of rights and justice in Yemen.
He has played a pivotal role in straightening the bilateral relations among the Yemeni and the French universities.
Dr. al-Maqaleh on his part expressed his happiness in such unforgettable moments considering the honoring ceremony as an honor for culture, creativity and the Yemeni authors.
He further stressed the great French influence on the Arab intellectuals in all Arab countries. “Cultural relations has to be established between the Arab and the French nation,” Dr. al-Maqaleh remarked.
Dr. Abdelaziz al-Maqaleh has occupied several posts such as, the director of the Yemeni Center for Studies and Research, University of Sana'a.
He is a writer and a poet and the Cultural Affairs Adviser to the President of the Republic.
He is also a Professor of Arts and Literature in the University of Sana'a, of which he was the Rector from 1982 until 2001.
He is a member of the Damascus and Cairo Academies of Arabic Language.
He has published numerous poems and essays on literature, among which: ''The Alphabet of Soul (1998), The Village Book (2000)''.
Dr. Abdulaziz al-Maqaleh was awarded the al-Shareqa Prize for Culture. Mr. al-Maqaleh ranked first of 37 candidates who were nominated for this prize. It is worth mentioning that this honoring prize is awarded to distinguished intellectual and creative activities taking place in Asia, which is administered by UNESCO.
