This is in reference to the flag-story “Guantanamo Detainees Ignored by the Government” (Yemen Times, 30 Jan).
In my view, the government has not deliberately ignored her citizens being held in Cuba, it is because of the fear of US. It is true that every country whether it's a Muslim or non-Muslim is feeling scared of US wrath, but still there are some who are showing their muscles to US. Iran, Syria and North Korea are the vivid examples of those tiny states that have openly challenged the US… but what is ironical is that Muslims have now turned out to be materialistic and have almost lost faith in the golden principles of Islam.
This being the case today we don't bother to recite the Holy Qur'an with its meaning attempting to implement it in our daily life, we prefer to watch horror and action movies on so many Western and European satellite channels. We waste our precious time on the internet chatting, but we don't bother offering prayers while the call-for-prayer is going on. We feel ashamed of asking our kids to wear at least our respective national dress [if not an Islamic one] while taking them out to markets or other place of entertainment.
Why is that? Are we ashamed of calling ourselves Muslims? If that's the case, then get ready for the wrath of Almighty Allah. He will not send angels down to punish us, but on this earth still there are some people like Mr. Bush, Mr. Blair and Mr. Sharon who are enough to serve the purpose.
We are living on this earth as if we would never ever die… but let's not forget that death keeps no calendar. How many people passed away but still our eyes seem to be closed. In the name of democracy and modernization, Muslims are being deprived of their fundamental traditions and customs in a very cunning and tactful way by West. If you follow the norms of modernity, you are civilized and educated, otherwise you are a conservative, a terrorist, a fundamentalist and a extremist.
