Introduction to partners in population and development [Archives:2003/676/Local News]
Sana'a, 11 Oct. _ The National Council for Population (NCP) held on Tuesday an information meeting on the south-south countries of partnership in population and development.
Secretary general of the NCP Ameen Marouf al-Jund said in the meeting that Yemen had joined as member with the partners since March of 2002 due to the importance of such coalition in the field of population activities and for benefiting from exchange of experience of member states in population , development, reproduction health and family planning.
The goals of partners organisation focus on developing cooperation in population policies, awareness about reproduction health and improvement of family planning services. The organisation consists of 19 countries from the south that depend on funding sources in financial support offered as contributions by member states, the UN Fund for Population, the WB and donations of some institutions and individuals.
The meeting was permeated with extensive discussions on role of donor countries in cooperation with partners for population and development.
The meeting was attended by representatives from civil society organisations, government, donor states and organisations and other parties interested in population issues.
