Plastic is considered one of the most dangerous manufactured materials to the environment generally and to man’s health specifically. In spite of this, it is manufactured and used heavily everywhere and the demand on it is increasing rapidly.
Although there are laws that regulate the use of plastic, they remain ink on paper.
Doctors say that using plastic for hot food or drinks leads to a chemical reaction between the container and the food. This reaction would cause harmful substances entering the body with the food, which could cause diseases.
Topping the list is cancer, coming next chest is and lung diseases and infertility. Also the plastic bags used widely in Yemen effect the environment badly by destroying the agricultural soil because it prevents the oxygen from entering through the soil layers as the plastic bags do not decay and remain in the earth forever.
Sometimes the plastic materials interrupt the natural growth for the roots and the other plants leading in most cases to death of the plants.
People should start practicing effective consumption of plastic bags and plastic materials without excessive use trying as much as possible to reduce their existence and harm to the environment.
Also the authorities should start implementing the laws and regulations and not just talking without action.
Eventually it is us who will be harmed or benefited depending on which path we choose.
