London bombing [Archives:2005/859/Letters to the Editor]

While driving to work Friday morning, I was listening to a radio show discussing the unfortunate incident that took place in London the previous morning. Most of the callers calling in were shocked and appalled at what happened, as they should be. In the midst of it all, I asked myself where's the disgust when innocent civilians are killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why isn't there the same type of uproar when occupying forces murder civilians on the other side of the ocean? Didn't Iread in some newspaper how 17 innocent civilians were killed in Afghanistan some days earlier by American troops? Why didn't this piece of news make headlines across the world? Could it be in their delusional mind when they kill civilians its collateral damage, the unfortunate part of war in the name of “democracy”? The double standard at how we view human life is what makes the whole thing appalling and disgusting.
